The Hi, world Service

Welcome to Hi, world!

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Hi mobile application and related services (the “Service”), except where we expressly state that separate terms apply.

We agree to provide you with the Service, which includes features, technologies, and software that allow you to create and share flips and posts inside flips, and discover content and experiences.

1.1 Personalization and recommendations

We may personalize parts of the Service (for example, organizing your feed or recommendations) based on your activity and settings. Some features may use location data if you grant permission (see our Privacy Policy).

1.2 Safety and integrity

We work to keep the Service secure and prevent abuse. We may remove content or restrict accounts that violate these Terms or applicable law.

1.3 Changes to the Service

We may add, remove, or change features over time. Some features may be experimental or change without notice.

How the Service Is Funded

Hi is currently provided without advertising. We do not show third-party ads at this time.

We may introduce paid features or other monetization methods in the future. If we do, we will update these Terms and, where required, provide notice.

Providing the Service requires collecting and using information as described in our Privacy Policy. By using the Service, you agree to the Privacy Policy.

Your Commitments
4.1 Who can use Hi

You must:

Be at least 13 years old (or the minimum legal age in your country to use the Service).

Not be prohibited from using the Service under applicable laws.

Not have had your account permanently disabled by us for serious or repeated violations of these Terms or applicable law.

4.2 How you can’t use Hi

You may not:

Impersonate others or provide materially inaccurate account information.

Use the Service for unlawful, misleading, or fraudulent purposes.

Post content that violates applicable law or infringes others’ rights (including copyright, trademark, privacy, or publicity rights).

Attempt to access, collect, scrape, or harvest data from the Service through automated means without our written permission.

Interfere with, disrupt, or bypass security or access controls of the Service.

Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code except where prohibited by law.

Sell, license, or purchase accounts, usernames, or access tokens.

4.3 You are responsible for your content

You are responsible for the content you upload and share, and for ensuring you have all rights needed to post it.

Permissions You Give to Us
5.1 License to your content

You retain ownership of your content. However, to operate the Service, you grant Hi a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, transferable, and sub-licensable license to host, store, reproduce, distribute, publicly display, perform, and create derivative works of your content only as necessary to provide and improve the Service, consistent with your settings and the Privacy Policy.

This license ends when your content is deleted from our systems, subject to limited retention in backups and for legal/safety reasons (see Section 7).

5.2 App updates

You agree that we may download and install updates to the Service on your device.

Our Intellectual Property

The Service, including our software, design, trademarks, and brand features, is owned by Hi or our licensors. You may not use our trademarks or branding without prior written permission.

Content Removal, Account Disabling, and Deletion
7.1 Content removal

We may remove or restrict access to content if we reasonably believe it violates these Terms, our policies, or applicable law, or if we must do so to protect users or the Service.

7.2 Account disabling/termination

We may suspend or terminate your account, or limit access to the Service, if you:

materially or repeatedly violate these Terms,

create risk or legal exposure for us,

engage in harmful, abusive, or illegal conduct, or

as required by law.

7.3 Deleting your account/content

You can request to delete your account by contacting us or using in-app tools (if available). When you request deletion:

We will delete content from active systems within a reasonable period.

Backups may retain content for up to 30 days.

We may retain certain information longer if needed for legal compliance, security, fraud prevention, or abuse investigations.

Even if content is in deletion processing, it may remain subject to these Terms and the Privacy Policy until deletion completes.

Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Hi will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenues, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the Service.

To the extent permitted by law, Hi, world's is total liability for any claim arising out of or related to these Terms will not exceed the amount you paid to Hi for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim (or JPY 10,000 if you paid nothing).

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.

Disputes and Governing Law

If you are a consumer, you may have mandatory rights under the laws of your country of residence.

Otherwise, these Terms are governed by the laws of Japan, and disputes will be brought in the Tokyo District Court as the court of first instance, unless applicable consumer law provides otherwise.

Updating These Terms

We may update these Terms to reflect changes to the Service, legal requirements, or our practices. We will notify you before material changes take effect and give you an opportunity to review them. Continued use of the Service after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.
